The Brigantes Breakfast

Attracting up to 400 Liverymen and guests, the annual Brigantes summer lunch is modelled on a Mansion House Banquet with further additions.

Wherever possible, the chosen venue enables Liverymen and guests from across the UK, particularly those from London and the South East, to travel to and from the function in the day.

Currently, for Liverymen and guests able to arrive early, the occasion starts at 10.30 with the annual Brigantes Lecture given by a speaker of note.

Thereafter the Brigantes Breakfast commences formally with a reception and the lunch with Principal Guests and current Masters processing, a Military Carpet Guard, an accompanying orchestra or brass band and post-lunch entertainment, usually closing at around 4.30.

The Lord Mayor of the City of London and the Sheriffs, all ex-officio Members of Brigantes in their year in office, are invited to attend and one or more often do.

As examples of the post-lunch entertainment, in 2022, at The Tower Ballroom Blackpool, Liverymen and guests were treated to a display by professional dancers who many of us have seen on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’. In 2023, at The Royal Hall Harrogate, a troupe of West End opera singers performed a selection from ‘Les Miserables’.

Other locations for the Brigantes Breakfast have included Cutlers Hall Sheffield, Whitworth Hall Manchester and The Royal Armouries Leeds.

The 2024 Brigantes Breakfast will be held at the spectacular St Georges Hall in Liverpool on 20 June.
